What EverThread collects
What you give it directly
- Your display name, optional.
- Journal entries and moments you capture.
- Conversation turns in the companion chat.
- Photos you attach to memories.
- Voice memos you record.
- Locations you add as place anchors.
- Mood and feeling tags you assign.
What EverThread generates on your behalf
- Recurring themes extracted from your conversations, processed entirely on your device.
- A session identifier: a randomly generated ID used to maintain continuity with your chosen AI backend.
We do not collect your contacts, browsing history, health records, financial information, or any data you have not explicitly given us.
Where your data lives
No account required. EverThread does not have an EverThread memory cloud database. Your memory archive lives on your device.
Local-first storage. Journal entries, conversations, photos, voice memos, locations, and learned patterns are stored locally in EverThread’s private app storage.
When you use the EverThread companion, the app may send your active conversation turn and selected continuity context securely to api.everthread.app so a response can be generated. EverThread’s API is stateless: it processes the request and returns a response, but does not store your conversation history, memories, journal entries, photos, voice memos, or continuity archive.
Export available as readable JSON. Settings → Export lets you download a complete copy of your memories, conversations, and threads as plain JSON. It is readable in any text editor. It is yours.
API keys stored in iOS Keychain. Your API keys, if you use Anthropic or OpenAI, are stored in your device’s secure iOS Keychain with hardware-backed encryption and are never transmitted to EverThread’s servers.
Intelligence providers and data transmission
EverThread lets you choose which intelligence voice carries your conversations. That choice determines where your conversation text travels.
| Provider | What happens |
|---|---|
| EverThread API | Your active conversation turn and selected continuity context are sent securely to api.everthread.app. The API is stateless: it processes your request and returns a response, but does not store your conversation history or memory archive. |
| Apple Intelligence | Runs entirely on your device. Nothing leaves your phone. |
| Anthropic | When selected, your conversation messages and any photos you attach are sent to Anthropic’s servers at api.anthropic.com using your own API key. Only active conversation data is sent if the user chooses this provider. |
| OpenAI | When selected, your conversation messages are sent to OpenAI’s servers at api.openai.com using your own API key. Only active conversation data is sent if the user chooses this provider. |
| Ollama | Runs on a machine you control on your local network. Nothing leaves your local environment. |
| Custom backend | If you configure your own backend, your conversation context is sent only to the user-provided URL. That server is yours to control. |
In all cases: your memories and journal entries are not automatically sent to any AI provider. Only the active conversation turn travels to the provider you have selected.
Third-party services
EverThread does not use third-party analytics, advertising networks, or crash reporting SDKs. No behavioral data is sold or shared with data brokers.
The only third parties that may receive any data are Anthropic or OpenAI, and only if you actively choose them as your intelligence provider.
Your data, your control
Export: Settings → Export lets you download a complete copy of your memories, conversations, and threads as plain JSON. It is readable in any text editor. It is yours.
Delete: Deleting the app removes all locally stored app data from your device, except backups or exports you created yourself. There is no account and no server-side copy to retrieve.
Provider choice: You can switch intelligence providers at any time in Settings → Intelligence. Switching to Apple Intelligence immediately stops any data from leaving your device.
Data security
Your memories are stored as local files protected by iOS device encryption. When data travels to Anthropic or OpenAI, it goes over HTTPS. Your API keys are stored in the iOS Keychain with hardware-backed encryption.
We do not have a server that holds your memories. There is nothing for us to breach.
Children
EverThread is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app’s release notes. We will not retroactively change how previously collected data is used.
